A 30-year-old man, Oluwaseun Moses, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged shop breaking and stealing.
Moses, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge of shop breaking and stealing.
The police prosecutor, Insp Caleb Leramo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 2 at about 11:33 p.m at No 25 Ifesowapo Street, Nova Area in Ado-Ekiti.
Leramo alleged that the defendant broke and entered the shop of Joseph Comfort.
He alleged that the defendant stole half bag of rice valued at N18, 000, 15 rubber of beans valued at N12,000 and bread 8 pieces valued N2,000.
Others are fish and meat valued N5, 000, Onion and Maggi valued N1,500 totaling N38,500 and belonging to the complainant.
According to him, the offences contravened Sections 322, 295 and punishable under section 320(1) (A) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendant pleaded guilty to count one and pleaded not guilty to count two.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Olayinka Opaleke, applied for a date.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, ordered the remand of the defendant in the correctional centre for pleading guilty to count one.
He adjourned the case until April 19 for hearing.(NAN)
